Valley Hunger Relief

It is an unfortunate reality that many people will be in need of emergency assistance at some time in their lives. The sudden loss of a job, a catastrophic event or illness, even extreme weather can create unmanageable burdens for anyone. Our CFM program offers a balanced approach to meet the needs of our community.  First Southern Baptist Church of Sylmar is committed to serving those in need with food and encouragement through our Compassionate Food Program. FSBC of Sylmar feeds over 6000 people per month and we desire to care for the whole person by providing food for the body and nourishment for the soul.

In 1994 Sylmar faced a horrible earthquake stemming from what is known as the "Northridge Quake." Less than 12 miles from the epic center our community was struck hard with damaged homes, Job loss and economic hardships from hundreds of families.  We began immediately to feed, shelter and serve the community moments after the quake and have never stopped since then,  We will continue to change lives and souls through our Compassion Food Program thanks to our dedicated volunteers and donations from our friends and those who have partnered with us from the beginning.

Food Box Program

Each year our Compassionate Food Program distributes over 36,000 food boxes with enough food to feed over 50,000 adults and children. Persons needing emergency food are referred by a variety of agencies but primarily by the CAP (Community Action Program) office. Other referrals come from Child Protective Services, non profits, churches, and local schools.
